Ordinary Men and Women

Ordinary Men and Women

Spread the love

“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13 (NIV)

This is one of my favorite verses in the New Testament. My preacher spoke on this passage on Sunday. I’ve always been struck by the words, “…they were unschooled, ordinary men”… who “had been with Jesus.” They weren’t known for their knowledge or weren’t looked upon as being anything special EXCEPT for the fact that it was obvious that they had spent time with Jesus.

I have to ask myself that question. When others see me, can they tell through my countenance, actions, and words that I’ve been in the presence of my Heavenly Father? I intentionally chose to write ‘words’ last in that list. So often people are quick to speak and say words about the Lord, but do their actions line up with their words? Can people tell beyond a shadow of doubt that we live a life that gives glory and honor to the Lord?

Many times folks are in awe of famous people. Clamoring to go see them in person, learning all about them. Perhaps following them on social media. I’m not saying that’s wrong. But, what would happen if instead of following after people on this earth, we followed after God? I don’t know about you, but I’d love to be known as an ordinary woman who has been in the presence of Christ.
