Does Your Life Feel Like Plan B?

Does Your Life Feel Like Plan B?

Spread the love

Do you sometimes look back at past mistakes or crushed dreams and wonder if you are stuck living in Plan B?

The Plan A version of your life wouldn’t include certain messy episodes, painful scars, or the consequences of that really, really bad decision, right? So the life you’re living now must be Plan B, the not-so-ideal version of your life-plan that is the best you can expect now that Plan A has been permanently screwed up.

Yeah, it can feel that way. But it isn’t true.

If God is sovereign, Plan B is a myth.

That sentence jumped right off the page*, grabbed me by the shoulders and got me pondering what I thought I knew about God.

Let me repeat it.

If God is sovereign, Plan B is a myth.

If God is sovereign, it means he is in control of everything that happens on this earth. If God is sovereign, it means he has always known exactly what his plan is for your life. If God is sovereign, it means no person or power is able to mess up his plans and force him from Plan A to Plan B.

Not only is God sovereign, he is also loving, good, pure, and perfect. We can count on him to remain true to his character no matter what. We can trust in his unchanging character even when life gets messy and we begin to wonder if he really cares.

Down here on earth it may feel like our life is stuck in Plan B—or maybe even Plan F—but the truth is that no person, action, mistake, injustice, accident, or anything else can force our all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving God to scrap his original plan and make up a new one for our lives.

Can you embrace his goodness and sovereignty and cling to the belief that God has the best plan for our lives, even when it doesn’t feel like it?

Can you say yes to God and what he is doing in your life today?

*(If you’re wondering, the book was When Life and Beliefs Collide by Carolyn Custis James.)
