New Beginnings

New Beginnings

Spread the love

Just the words, New Beginnings, can bring about many different feelings. For some it might bring excitement and anticipation, for others anxiety and fear,  and for others dread.

Of course these feelings may vary based on the situation or circumstances but sometimes even the same circumstances result in different feelings because of our perspective. Is it a new beginning we wanted or do we not have a choice?  Is it something positive, such as a new job or starting college, which is exciting and stressful at the same time? Even positive circumstances can leave us feeling fearful or anxious about our ability to succeed or not.

Easter and spring always get me thinking of new beginnings. Jesus said to His disciples, “… ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.””  1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:25‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Jesus was facing His crucifixion the next day. I can’t imagine the various emotions He felt but I’m sure they were many and varied. He was to suffer yet also would return to the Father. He was to die an unspeakable death, yet that death would result in hope and new life for all who choose to accept it.  His disciples, not yet fully understanding all Jesus was telling them about what was to come, also probably had uncertainty, fear and confusion.

With the air starting to warm and new growth starting to show, spring also brings with it a promise of hope, of beauty, of life. The colors of spring paint a picture of hope.

As you face each new day of spring in this next month, look for the beauty that points to hope instead of the change and uncertainty that lead to fear and anxiety. Look to the Cross that speaks to a love so deep that we are given the living water of hope and eternal life from a well that never runs dry. And enjoy and appreciate the myriad of new beginnings that this spring holds for you.

Jesus answered and said to her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.””
‭‭John‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭NASB‬‬
