Be Strong and Courageous

Be Strong and Courageous

Spread the love

For several weeks now, I’ve been on a “courage” kick. This doesn’t mean I’m feeling particularly courageous at the moment, just that I know I need it. We’ve got lots of changes going on in our lives. Good ones. But there are parts of them that are scary all the same.

When I look back at the last few months, I’ve seen God preparing me to be courageous. I’ve studied vulnerability and the courage to put yourself “in the ring.” I’ve opened my arms and looked up to heaven to say, “I’m here. Lead me.”

I see this theme about courage in my art and writing and conversations. I’ve sought out words that bring me comfort so that I can step out and be courageous.

This verse from Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) brought me comfort today: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The trouble is, sometimes I feel the fear even though I know logically it shouldn’t be there. This is when I need to go back to His word and ask Him to be patient with me. He is already, of course, but I need to ask because it helps me acknowledge my limitations. It helps me to be reminded that I’m not in control and that’s okay.

Lillian talked recently about the things we do when we feel far away from God. She said listening to music is one way that gets her back in the right frame of mind to seek Him out again. I do this, too, but I also like to read about the times that God reminds us He’s right there. Even when we don’t feel or see Him, He’s still there. We don’t need to be afraid.
