He Leads Us

Spread the love

Last week I attended an event to support some friends who were taking part. I was there with no agenda other than to hear them speak. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see people I knew and engage in some meaningful conversations. I was so blessed, and one woman said I had unexpectedly encouraged her that day!

A few days later I heard a report from a young friend who recently returned from a six month trip overseas. Again, she had no set agenda but to learn the culture and support the missionaries she was visiting. She had gone into the trip with few expectations, but after a month she became frustrated and asked God to show her why she was there. She then told the story of how several “random” encounters and conversations led her to a job teaching in a Christian school. She was excited to see how that opportunity turned into many others and she saw God’s clear leading in it all.

trust Him

My takeaway from these events was that I should just RELAX! I sensed God telling me to trust Him to lead me in His ways, and go along with what He is already doing. I try so hard to figure out what His will is, or worry about if I’m doing the right things. Should I try this path or this one? We must not forget that He is actively building His kingdom. And it’s His kingdom, not mine. He is up there on His throne saying, “I’ve got this, my child! Trust me to work all things out for your good and my glory.”

I’m reminded of Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God, I wil be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (NIV) Or other translations put it this way:

Cease striving and know that I am God.”

Are you like me, striving and worrying and trying to figure things out? Are you doubting that God has a good plan for your life? Or wondering what He’s going to do in this situation or with that circumstance? We must remind ourselves of truth. He is our good, loving Father. He has promised to continue His work in and through us. He has promised to never leave or forsake us.

Isaiah 43:19

If we truly trust Him, it will change the way we pray and what we ask for. Instead of giving God my list of demands, I will say “your will be done.” Instead of telling Him how things should work out, I will ask Him to work it out for His glory, not mine. I will surrender my desires and wishes and ask Him to align my heart and my love with His. I will ask Him to keep me faithful and trusting and obedient, no matter how things turn out.

Corrie Ten Boom said, “Don’t bother to give God instructions; just report for duty.”
Lord, may this be my response in all things! Your will be done, I pray.
