We Are All One

We Are All One

Spread the love

As many do, I truly enjoy watching the Olympics whenever they’re on. I feel it’s only right when these athletes devote their whole lives working to achieve making it to and participating in the Olympics that the least we can do is take the time to watch them compete and support them.

But besides supporting them, enjoying the competition and the uniqueness of the sports, I also take comfort in seeing the many people from different countries all side by side and being gracious to each other with good sportsmanship most of the time.

With the passing of Billy Graham this past week and reading many quotes he’d shared over the years, the theme of all of us being created and loved by God stood out to me. Whether someone is from France, Australia, the United States or anywhere around the world, Yahweh, the One true God, created us all regardless of if we believe in Him, any other deity or nothing at all. Those beliefs don’t negate the fact that He is the Author and Creator of the Universe and loves each of us.

But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.”‭‭  1 Cor‬ ‭8:6‬ ‭NLT

Billy Graham tried to encourage us to recognize that about each other and to see each other through God’s eyes.

That’s what I love about the Olympics. That for 2 weeks we are celebrating our countries, yes, but we are celebrating each other and our ability to put aside the other issues that might devide us and instead unite to celebrate excellence.

Central Church in Henderson, Nevada where my son Jack is the Lighting Director recently released an album called Greater and there is one song titled, We Are All One, which I feel represents both the Olympics and Billy Graham’s life and ministry well.  Here are a couple of the lines from that song:

“We are all created by the hands of God, hands of God…We stand united, everyone around the world, brothers and sisters we can bring each other hope. We will be strong when together we are one; we are not the same, but we are all one.”  Central Church Worship

We are all created and loved by the One true God. We are all humans born in different countries, into different faiths and we may speak different languages, but we are all one. May we treat each other this way not just a few weeks every 2 years but each and every day.

Father, thank You for the life of Billy Graham, his heart for You and for Your people and that he brought hope to others speaking Your Word as truth and he did so with grace and love. Just as he united and shared your message with others around the world, may we learn from his example and do the same. In Jesus Name, Amen
