• Merry Christmas!

From the very beginning of the world, God said it was not good for man to be alone. “Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.””  ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:18‬ ‭NASB‬‬

So after Adam came Eve and a family was born. Even though God could have put flesh on and come to Earth alone and on His own, He chose not to because if He was to be fully human and fully divine, then He needed to be born into a family, into relationship with others. Even during His earthly ministry, Jesus surrounded Himself with twelve others that He would be in close relationship with, sharing himself, His wisdom and His love.

We are made in the same way. We are made with a longing to be close to and with others. As we celebrate the holidays, we often gather with family and friends. I believe we do this because we were made to be in relationship. It doesn’t matter if you’re with family or friends, but it’s important to spend time with others, especially during the holidays because when we isolate ourselves, it leaves room for Satan’s lies to enter. We all need time by ourselves too of course just as Jesus did when He would go off to pray or rest but just as He always returned to His disciples and the people, we need to do the same.

When we isolate ourselves, our minds tend to focus on the negative; we get focused on the flesh instead of the spiritual and soon you find yourself not leaving room for God.

This Christmas, I encourage you to reflect on the very first Christmas when Christ was born surrounded by His parents and visited by shepherds who had just seen the Heavenly Host of angels. I encourage you to realize that even if you have broken relationships, have lost someone special to you or are going through a difficult season, you are never alone for your Heavenly Father is always with you. You can be in relationship with Him through His Holy Word and through prayer. You can be in relationship with other friends, neighbors or your church family. Christ was born because God wanted to be in relationship with YOU. How cool is that?! Christ was born so you may have eternal life and be in relationship with God forever. This Christmas day may you feel the love of Christ and accept the best gift of all…an eternal relationship with Him forever.

“’This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.’ When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, ‘Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.’”  ‭‭Luke‬ ‭2:12-15‬ ‭NASB‬‬

  1. This was beautiful, Tina. There is no greater example of our need for togetherness than a God who took on flesh and came to live and eat and sleep and weep and grow into a man among us!
