Peace in the Storms of Life

Peace in the Storms of Life

And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”

Mark 4:37-40 (NKJV)

Do you ever feel like the disciples? A storm is raging and Jesus is fast asleep in the boat? He doesn’t seem to be answering you. You feel that you are on your own. You are overwhelmed by the waves crashing against you. Can’t catch your breath. Wondering where He is in the midst of your struggles? You’re the one up late at night and you feel alone?

Yeah. I can relate. I’ve been through a storm of my own recently. One of those times where the stress of the situation completely exhausts me, and I have trouble seeing Jesus working in the midst of it. Don’t get me wrong…I know He’s there, because He promised He would be.

What I need to do is cling to Him in the midst of the storms I face in this life and remember that He is PEACE. When I choose to go to Him, He freely offers His peace. He desires to help me and be with me in the storms I face…all I need to do is ask Him.

The disciples fretted and worried about the storm they experienced. Finally they decided to waken their Lord. They should have sought Him out in the first place.

So should we. 🙂

Are you in the midst of a storm? How can I be praying for you?

  1. I just wrote this yesterday and today God has me going through another ‘storm’. Even when hurts abound, I choose to have faith in Him and to seek His peace.

  2. Bless you, Jodie! I hope the storms you are in calm down. Glad you’re continuing to reach out to Jesus.

It’s funny that you write about this particular story. We’ve been going over this in church and your message underscores the point of remembering that even when we wonder what Jesus is doing, he’s there with us in the storm.

  3. I guess it’s not so much dwelling on the ‘why’ of the situation, but instead concentrating and trusting in Christ no matter what we face.

Thank you for sharing Jodie and may God wipe away the storms and calm the seas you are going through soon. Keep your eyes focused on Him and I’ve found reading the Psalms during my own times of struggle has been very helpful. God bless

  5. Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement, Tina. 🙂 I appreciate it.
