You Are Light

You Are Light

One morning, around 2:00am, I awoke to a power outage. My house was pitch black, no light anywhere. I fumbled and stumbled my way to the kitchen where I kept a flashlight, pulled it out and the battery was dead. A feeling of dread overwhelmed me slightly as I pondered how I would get to the power surge boxes located at the back of the basement, without killing myself.

I found a small pen light as I rummaged through the drawer, flicked it on, and it seemed to light up the whole room.

That incident made me think about how a little fleck of light can block out darkness and illuminate the way to safety or freedom.

We are the light of the world if we confessed Jesus as Lord. Our lights should shine in a dark and gloomy world. We want our lights to shine brightly so the lost can find their way to safety; so the enslaved (to sin) can find their way to freedom; so the downtrodden can find their way to victory – all in Christ Jesus!

Let your light shine brightly, on a stand, so all can see, as we prepare to celebrate this Thanksgiving season.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven……………………………….Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
