A Broken Hearted Hug

A Broken Hearted Hug

1402529_43662915It was a beautiful day in February a few years back, considering the Minnesota winters. I started the day with my two-year-old smushing applesauce in his hair, giggles and a warm washcloth for his face.

My heart was bursting with emotion. There was so much adventure and love in the future. I rested a hand on my stomach and glanced out the kitchen window, dreaming of what I might see in the back yard in five years.

All of those dreams came crashing down that same day. It broke my heart.

Crushed by sadness I struggled to lean on Jesus. How could I lean on the one who allowed this to happen?

I questioned. I railed at the sky. I cried. Finally, I let myself rest in the arms of Jesus. I told Him of my sorrow, my frustration and I cried some more. The burden  was lighter. It wasn’t gone. But, it was bearable.

Maybe you can think of a time when you have been crushed or broken hearted. It feels as if you are alone and totally abandoned to your pain.

But there is a Savior who reaches His arms out to hold you in the most difficult times. Leaning on Him is how we gather the strength  to move on.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 34:18 (ESV)

Even as you cry and ache with sadness, the Lord is near. And somehow, it is enough to lift the unbearable burden that crushes your spirit. No, you may not feel carefree, but the burden will lighten. He will hold you in His arms and you can cry your heart out.

This song really spoke to me:

You can choose to be Held by Jesus. He is near to you and He wants to lift the burden. Today, I know that Jesus will be faithful to hold me through the difficult times. That He will be near.

If you are broken hearted, or have a crushed spirit and would like us to pray for you, just leave a comment that says, “Me.” If you have found God to be faithful in a difficult time, encourage others with your favorite verse or just a statement of His faithfulness.

    Another verse that encouraged me:

“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!” Psalm 56:8-9

  2. What a beautiful message, Michelle. It’s been my hardest times that have brought me closest to God and His love. *hugs*

  3. Thank you so much for sharing, I really needed this!!

  4. I’ve had some moments where I had to lean in even when at first I didn’t want to. I was angry at God. But I learned that it’s okay to be mad, as long as we don’t that way and that leaning brought such a comfort and peace. He’s so tender toward us even when we’re upset with Him. Hugs.
