I Almost Missed the Blessing

I Almost Missed the Blessing

Last week we had an incident with our car. My husband was driving and suddenly, the radiator blew. He was on the freeway but was able to pull over to the side of the road before he got into an accident. This happened a few days before we had to move. We were counting on the car for the move, and not counting on the several thousand dollars’ worth of cost to repair the car.

When I first heard the news, I was dismayed. We’ve been hit hard by things like this. Unexpected financial issues that have nothing to do with having fun and everything to do with cars, repairs, health issues. So to have this expense, directly (and unexpectedly) on the heels of our move, left me wondering where God was.

Then I stopped myself. What was I doing? With all the stress and lack of sleep involved with a move, I had become complacent in the need to praise Him. He kept my husband safe. The car was toast, but cars can be fixed and replaced. In all the worrying about money and “what next,” I almost missed the blessing.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem,

so the Lord surrounds his people,

from this time forth and forevermore.

~ Psalm 125:2

What’s more, I had forgotten the need to praise even in the face of negativity. This is a challenge, isn’t it? We feel pain and this feeling doesn’t immediately translate to gratefulness.

We need to thank God even through the

But we need to thank God even through the rough moments, because we never know what His plan is. He works in our worst moments as well as in our good times.

Give thanks in all circumstances;

for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18

I thank Him today, even as I wonder where life leads us next. Regardless of where it is or what happens, I know he has us in the palm of His hand.
